Who We Are

Illuminating spaces through innovative design and environmental consciousness

Lumithal Quindar Studio

Our Story

Started back in 2009 when three of us were sitting in a cramped downtown café, sketching building ideas on napkins. We'd just left corporate firms where sustainability felt like an afterthought - something you tacked on to win an award, not because you actually cared.

Fast forward to today, and we're a team of 18 folks who genuinely believe buildings shouldn't cost the earth to operate. Sure, we've won some awards along the way, but honestly? The best part is when clients call us months after moving in, surprised their energy bills are half what they expected.

We're not interested in designing cookie-cutter boxes. Every project gets obsessed over - from the angle of the windows to how the building sits on its site. It's gotta make sense, feel right, and yeah, look pretty damn good too.

The Journey So Far

Fifteen years of learning, growing, and pushing boundaries

2009

The Beginning

Three architects, one mission. Founded Lumithal Quindar in a 400 sq ft office with borrowed furniture and unlimited ambition. Our first project? A residential renovation that's still standing proud.

2012

Going Commercial

Landed our first commercial project - a 20,000 sq ft office building that achieved LEED Gold. That's when we realized sustainable design wasn't just for the idealists; businesses wanted it too.

2015

Embracing BIM

Invested heavily in Building Information Modeling tech. Total game-changer. We could spot issues before they became expensive problems and collaborate way better with contractors.

2018

Heritage Work

Started restoration projects on heritage buildings. Turns out old buildings have stories worth preserving, and making them energy-efficient is an incredible challenge we've grown to love.

2021

Net-Zero Pioneer

Completed our first net-zero energy building. The client was skeptical at first, but now they're basically running an ad for us with their utility bills.

2024

Today

We're now 18 strong, tackling projects from coast to coast. Still learning, still experimenting, and still convinced that good architecture should leave the world better than we found it.

Meet the Team

The folks who make it all happen

Founder

Miranda Chen

Principal Architect & Co-Founder

Started this whole thing with a napkin sketch and way too much coffee. Still asks "but why?" until we find the right answer. Obsessed with daylighting strategies and will redesign window placement seventeen times if needed.

Design Director

James Okonkwo

Design Director & Co-Founder

The guy who makes sure our buildings don't just work - they sing. Former classical pianist, which somehow translates into spatial rhythm that just feels right. Also our go-to for heritage projects.

Sustainability Director

Rajesh Kapoor

Sustainability Director & Co-Founder

The numbers guy who can calculate thermal bridging in his sleep. If there's a greener way to do something, he'll find it. Rides his bike to work year-round, even in January.

Senior Architect

Sophie Lariviere

BIM wizard who can model anything. Literally anything.

Fresh energy and questions we forgot to ask.

What Drives Us

Look, we're not trying to save the world single-handedly. But every building we design is gonna be around for decades, maybe centuries. That's a lot of energy consumed, a lot of materials used.

We got into this because buildings fascinated us - the way light moves through a space, how materials age, the feeling you get walking into a well-designed room. Somewhere along the way, we realized we had a responsibility too.

So we design buildings that don't waste energy, use materials thoughtfully, and actually enhance their neighborhoods. And yeah, they look good doing it. Because sustainable doesn't mean boring - it means smart.

Our Values

Honesty First

We'll tell you if something won't work, even if it's not what you wanna hear.

Details Matter

The small stuff is what separates okay buildings from great ones.

Long-Term Thinking

Your building needs to work next year and twenty years from now.

Collaboration Works

Best ideas come from listening - to clients, contractors, and each other.
